Welcome to our new assistant professor, Lidong Xiang!

Pitt Children's Lit welcomes our new assistant professor, Lidong Xiang!

Dr. Xiang recently graduated from Rutgers University with a dissertation called Cruel Girlhood: Violent Practices and Chinese Schoolgirls in Films and Fiction, focusing on how children’s literature and film respond to everyday violence against Chinese girls and criminalization of girls, a topic that resonates with broader scholarship on social justice and intersectionality. She has published six articles in English and Chinese and has held research fellowships at Rutgers and the International Youth Library in Munich. Dr. Xiang has designed and taught courses on children’s literature with attention to cross-cultural circulation, reception, and translation. She will be teaching Englit 1645: Critical Approaches to Children's Literature in Fall 2023.
